Idea 2

Read “The Young Hero and The Horrible Giant” on page 122 of “The Jesus Storybook Bible”.  You can buy the book here.

  • As you read the story ask these questions

  • Who was the Philistines’ secret weapon?

  • What did Goliath call God’s people?

  • Who is David? Who is Goliath?

  • What did David use in battle?

  • Who always wins the battle?

  • Who is the greatest Hero?

Idea 3

Play pin the stone on Goliath.

  • Give each of the kids a paper stone that has tape on it.

  • Tape a picture of Goliath on the wall and blind fold the kids one at a time.

  • Let the kids come up to the picture of Goliath and let them try to stick the stone on his head while blindfolded.

Idea 4

Why did David think that Goliath would die?

  • Ask the kids why they think David was so sure that Goliath would die?

  • Read 1 Samuel 17:45-48 to the kids.

  • Read it through verse by verse and see if you can figure out as a group what it all means.

Idea 5

Give each of the kids a stone and ask them to write something on the rock.

  • An example of something they could write would be, God wins, trust in God, God is strong etc.

Idea 6

Share with the kids an example in your life where you had to deal with a Goliath, it could be a bully, standing up for what is right, etc.
