Here are some thoughts on how to organize a lesson.

There are various ways to organize a lesson, but here is one that I tend to use often when planning a Kids’ Church lesson.

Large Group

  • Introduce the story and hear the story for the first time.

Small Group

  • Tell the story again, maybe even twice, in a different way.

  • Relate the story to our own lives.

  • Pray, take some time to respond to the message.

Things to keep in mind.

Everyone learns in a different way. When planing a lesson keep in mind all the different ways a kid can learn, and try to incorporate them all into your lesson. Some kids will learn by…

Visual - they need to see something. Ex. pictures, videos, graphs, charts, symbols

Auditory - they need to hear something. Ex. telling the story, talking through ideas, the narrative in a video or skit, talking things through as a group

Reading and Writing - they need text heavy resources. Ex. making notes, reading the bible story and referring back to it.

Kinaesthetic - they need to move and be hands on. Ex. acting out the story, asking kids to move a certain way to answer a question, mystery scenes where they need to put the pieces together and figure something out on their own.
